About Khatamkari
Khatamkari is one of Persian handicrafts (Iranian handicrafts). Khatamkari is the art of decorating wooden objects using small triangles. Various designs of Khatam are always produced from regular geometric shapes. These regular geometric shapes are created by piecing small triangles together. These triangles are made up of wood, metal and bone. The smaller and subtler the triangles are, the better the Khatam will be. Khatamkari flourished during Safavid period. The most important centers for Khatamkari include Isfahan, Shiraz and Tehran. Some products of Khatamkari include different kinds of cases especially caskets, pen cases, pens, photo frames, Rehals (Quran stand), vases, mirrors and candlesticks, sugar bowls, tables and coin-boxes.
