Tehran Persian Rug

Persian Rug 6499 - Tehran Persian Rug from Persian Carpet Collection

This Persian rug is in the categories of Persian Rug (Persian Carpet), Tehran Persian Rug (Tehran Persian Carpet) and Antique Persian Rug (Antique Persian Carpet), and it has been introduced and provided by Persian Carpet Collection. Tremendously balanced with meticulous attention to detail and color work, this fascinating piece is the product of a highly dexterous, deeply inspired weaver at the top of her game. Standing tall behind a robust rose bush that houses a cleverly camouflaged “chameleon” bird, a flowering Tree of Life is miraculously laden with a diversity of species, ultimately blooming from the same root system. Every element of the composition is clearly defined on a lightly textured parchment ground. Upon closer inspection, what first appears like additional roses higher in the boughs are actually a pair of nesting birds. Tehran’s signature garnet red leads the hierarchy of scintillating colors in this rug, enhanced by burnished bronze, fuchsia, pale marigold, lagoon green, and veins of lapis blue. The border is an extremely successful avant-garde version of the popular Shah Abbas design with botanical ornamentations that gently melt before the eye and sparkle like stained glass. Treasured for well over a century, this magical rug remains in exceptionally good pile condition. 4’ 8” x 6’ 7” 142cm x 201cm Circa 1900

Persian Rug 6481 - Tehran Persian Rug from Persian Carpet Collection

This Persian rug is in the categories of Persian Rug (Persian Carpet), Tehran Persian Rug (Tehran Persian Carpet) and Antique Persian Rug (Antique Persian Carpet), and it has been introduced and provided by Persian Carpet Collection. ”TEHRAN GARDEN RUG” This consummately crafted, exceedingly fine knotted piece at once pays homage to the traditional Tehran garden design and adventurously departs from it. Rather than the single overscale vase at the foot of its field, its incredibly dexterous weaver presents two diminutive vases of dissimilar patterns and multiple elaborate wreathes. Many birds of various species roosts in the blossom-laden boughs against the warm cream ground of the asymmetrically shaped field with sprandrels in its lower corners, but none at its upper end. An entirely festive border features many more fowl, hopping bunnies, exotic tulips and roses. Astonishingly saturated scarlet, sapphire and pumpkin orange highlights its virtuoso palette. Virtually full pile condition heightens the luminosity of its high-grade wool. 4’ 8” x 7’ 0” 142cm x 213cm Circa 1875

This painstakingly detailed, ebullient Tehran rug demonstrates great mastery of the highly acclaimed ‘Tree of Life’ design while offering an immersive, idealistic depiction of the natural world. Meticulously detailed blossoms in bronze, azure fern green, and oxblood shimmer and sway across the ivory reserve beneath the canopy of an ornately scalloped arch, festooned with a Rococo display of luminous garlands and florets. Tucked within the gently sinuous boughs are ethereal birds that are almost invisible through their camouflaged coloration and insightful placement by the weaver among the crisply rendered foliage. An elaborate primary band displays a profuse array of botanical delights. Their differing proportions and adept shading ensure that it doesn’t appear crowded, with innovative vinery like chain lightning crackling with life. Its nearly full pile glistens due to the lanolin-rich mountain wool. 4’ 9” x 7’ 3” 145 cm x 221 cm Circa 1900

The midnight sapphire field is flush with realistically depicted foliage filling every available space yet, beguilingly, stops short of overcrowding. Each blossom and brass-toned leaf were carefully rendered by an expert weaver who settled for nothing less than pinpoint excellence. Tehran Geranium Garden With Silk Flowers Easily one of the most beautiful carpets I have encountered in my career. This Qajar masterpiece is inspired by the famous garden carpets of Karabagh, the pride of Russian Empire weavings. It stands out from those for a number of reasons and is one of two of type only that I have seen (the other is in my mother’s salon!). First, the finely spun wool and the lavish silk highlights. Then we have the unbelievable white field which brings out the stunning pinks and reds of the roses and geraniums. The pattern, in addition, is more ornate and curvilinear and truly brings to mind a real life rose garden - you can almost smell the aromatic scent of the flowers! Was it a special commission? Certainly I would say. Its nonconventional proportions indicate it was created to match the dimensions of a very specific hall. Mouthwatering. 371 x 221 Circa 1880

Old paintings and photographs show the rural nature of Tehran's old carpets. To study and access the examples of Tehran carpets (Tehran rural carpets), it is not enough to go to the carpet weaving situation today. Because the developments of the last 1.5 centuries have changed Tehran so much that the texture of the old rural carpet of Tehran with its past identity is rarely woven or is not common at all. Over time, as a number of wealthy Qajar families began to produce carpets out of curiosity, a flood of immigrants flooded into central Iran. Gradually, a new awesomeness emerged for Tehran's carpet weaving, and due to the influx of immigrants and the transfer of its traditional carpet weaving trade and its combination with Tehran's rural carpet, an urban style trend emerged in Tehran's carpet weaving. This movement was also destroyed. To study the designs and patterns of the carpets of this period, one can only refer to the photographs and samples of the museum; Because today, no trace of such designs can be found in the carpets of Tehran today. Developments in carpet weaving in Tehran over the last three decades have been much broader and different from its past, and can even be said to have been unprecedented on the Iranian carpet. These developments have reached their peak, especially in the last 20 years, after the revolution. One of the obvious reasons is the abundance of migration from other cities to Tehran.
