This excellent rug is a fascinating window into the myriad Malayer visual styles, revealing the heights of artistic and emotional expression occasionally reached by this accomplished weaving group. In what is essentially a painterly abstraction of the ever-popular Herati pattern, aqueous rosettes seem to gently expand and contract with the ebbs and flows of the emerald green vinery. Elongated horizontal leaves are like platforms from which interconnected blossoms burst forth in sparkling hues of azure, rose, teal, and cinnabar.
