Four occupy the central vertical portion, but they are connected by a system of diamonds that continues beyond the borders, each with a “campfire grid” motif at its center, symbolizing their nomadic lifestyle. An extraordinary abundance of folkloric, abstracted animal motifs, including charming horses, sheep, and gazelles, are drawn with a joyful freedom of line and scale, along with detached blossoms, sprouting boteh seeds, and legendary bowing birds. Both this aged carpet’s supple handle and its magnificent patina infusing its gracious color combination subtly emanate the time-tested longevity of this tribe.
