It is no surprise that most people that love antique and vintage rugs also love nature. The design theme of nearly all old rugs is drawn from plants, animals, sun, night sky, mountains, and water. We all originate from nature, but the modern world we experience is no longer clearly connected to our instinctual heritage. I say, time to reconnect! The antique Heriz in these photos is all about nature. It is entirely botanical, well except for one snake (find it). In fact, looking at it holistically, it is made of wool, cotton, and natural dyes, and it was made by hand. If you look at a thousand old rugs you may begin to take this for granted, but stop, slow down, breathe, and absorb the marvelous grace some of these old rugs have to share.

The border and medallion are rich cherry red with the corner spandrels and large palmettes in cream. This connoisseur level Serapi grade Heriz has been very finely hand knotted by skilled weavers using a subtle range of vegetable dyed colors and lustrous hand spun wool. Size: 9'8"x13'5" Age: 1920 Origin: Heriz, Northwest Persia Materials: Hand knotted handspun wool pile on a cotton foundation. Natural dyes.
