(High-Collectible) (“NEW ACQUISITION") This extraordinary early carpet is an exceedingly precious example of one of the most revered Persian weaving traditions, incorporating a cabbage rose motif into this fascinating, complex overall design. Floating in an astoundingly innovative, spacious allover latticework, each cluster of blossoms and leaves is uniquely and naturalistically crafted, reflecting a commitment to the challenge of weaving a spectrum of garden species. Among these is the Guli Farang or "Foreign Flower" design of cabbage rose, known in that part of the world as the source for rose oil. Rendered with such astonishing delicacy, akin to a refined early Mohtasham Kashan, brilliantly conceived, elegant tendrils tempt the viewer to follow them to areas along the edges where the design ends spontaneously, making the carpet even more spacious and fascinating.
