The best Malayers are known for their notably refined drawing, but rarely are they as artistically profound as in this piece. Here the majestic central medallion creates an entrancing atmosphere with is evocative mirrored design. Chromatically entrancing are the abundant use of a buttercup yellow dye, at least seven distinct values of rare celadon, and remarkably subtle striation through the medallion and border reds. Glowing with a deep patina, this singular early rug is alive with enchanting artistic nuance.
