Finely woven on a silk foundation, overall excellent condition This luxuriant area-size Isfahan inherits a pedigree of craftsmanship and artistic sensitivity that were informed by a long history of regal workshops of the Safavid dynasty in this 16th century capital city. With a knot density of over 300 kpsi, and lamb’s wool surface radiating an enchanting luster, its lush patterning appears to circulate around the sophisticated center medallion. The mind-boggling field contains detailed cloudbands and numerous exotic birds within foliage in various postures. The signature Isfahan colors are here radiantly rendered with powder, sky, and ice blues in harmonious interplay with rich carnelian reds and deeper-hued cobalt. This piece has been treated with great respect for a period of 100 years, as it comes to us in remarkable, unblemished full-pile condition.
