107cm x 89cm Woven on silk warps, with white cotton highlights, light localised wear, some holes, scattered small repairs, backed and mounted Antique and unique from the 17th century in Isfahan. Circa 1675 Isfahan handmade carpet dates back to ancient times and the history of Isfahan handmade carpets dates back to the early 16th century in the Safavid dynasty (1502 ,, 1722). The Safavid era can be seen as a brilliant Iranian handmade carpet. Shah Abbas was a strong supporter of Iranian art and artists in the sixteenth century. Isfahan is a city in western central Iran and became more important when Shah Abbas moved the Iranian capital from Qazvin to Isfahan. Shah Abbas's reign can be called the golden age of Iranian carpet weaving. The subtle carvings and paintings of Isfahan's antique and handmade carpets, which are embroidered with the skilled hands of Isfahan artists, have created an unparalleled painting. Today, Isfahan is Iran's second largest city and one of the most important industrial centers.
