A treasure trove of Persian art! Highly spirited and refreshingly tribal in design, this Persian Kurdish village rug has a wonderfully simple, yet bold feel to it. excellent design and color, a well-known name in Persian carpet industry. Price upon request! 3' 5" x 6' 4" (114cm x 193cm) Circa 1850 19th Century An all-over pattern of stylized boteh (sprouting "Seed of Life" motifs) adorn the piece in alternating colors from light rose to navy blue and orange all atop a rich indigo field. A number of other symbolic motifs are scattered throughout in a variety of earth tones. This is a little rug that possesses much to discover! A vital and spontaneous work of tribal weavers, most likely family members, this seldom found area-size camelhair rug immediately had us under its spell. Its charming folkloric character is evident in its asymmetrical placement of the medallion and partial medallion, surrounded by four naively rendered large scale boteh ("Seed of Life" motif.) While the medallions are skillfully executed, derived from traditional motifs, the border designs are entirely playful and free-form, filled with geometric shapes that continually change in both scale and form, probably the work of a young weaver. The festive array of secondary hues and the luminous blonde undyed camelhair come together to enhance its joyful spirit.
