Mesmerizing for combining visual complexity and profound simplicity, this entirely singular, astonishingly well-preserved over 100 year -old carpet encapsulates all the essential qualities of this avidly coveted folk art style in a single impression. The expansive soft cinnabar reserve features ripples of virtuoso abrash striation that hints at a textured surface. This creates a zone of astounding depth, making the luminiferous ocean blue of the medallion even more potent and prominent. At its center, a shining golden ‘Window to Eternity’ is graced by a single poppy flower with enough gravity to anchor the entire composition and orchestrate the dramatic diamond pendants. Unusually, the stepped spandrels are adorned with a profusion of blossoms, some highlighted by a rarely found shade of apple green. 14' 0" x 22' 10" 427cm x 696cm circa 1920
