About Jame Mosque of Semnan
Jame Mosque of Semnan is a very old and valuable building in Semnan that has enjoyed great religious, cultural and social value during history. The first building of this mosque, which has been of little glory, was constructed by the rich men of Semnan at the time of the Abdullah ibn Umar government. Later on, this primary building has been extended frequently such that today works of Seljuk and Timurid periods can also be observed there. The minaret of this mosque is among historic minarets of Iran that belongs to Seljuk Period. It is located on the northeast corner of Jame Mosque. From the roof of this minaret, there is a two-meter-height brick inscription in Kufic calligraphy adorned with beautiful designs and patterns. This is the oldest shaking minaret in Iran in the middle of which there is a wood axis and the whole minaret moves by shaking it. This building is constructed to the Azeri style of architecture.
