About Kazem Khan Castle
Kazem Khan or Kazem Dashi Castle is located on Kazem Dashi Region in Goorchin Ghal'eh Village 70 kilometers from Urmia. Kazem Dashi Region is an island-like cliff in Lake Urmia that has been a shelter for people of surrounding villages in different periods including World War I and it was nominated after Kazem Khan, the commander of villagers' guards. There has been a two-story building in this castle that once has been used by Kazem Khan and his family. Once, Kazem Khan had established forging, casting and boat-making and in addition he made Muzzle-loading cannon and gunpowder and bullets. He was skillful in making handmade bombs. However, he was killed by one of them. It is worth noting that the major works identified in Kazem Khan Castle and Kazem Dashi Region belong to first millennium B.C. and Ilkhanid Era. These works are being protected by the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization of Iran.
