About Afif Abad Military Museum

Afif Abad Military Museum, which is among the largest military museums in the Middle East, is located on Afif Abad street in Shiraz. The founder of this museum's building is Mirza Ali Mohammad Khan Ghavam al-Mulk the Second, who constructed this building with an area of 127,000m2 in 1284 A.H. This complex contains a royal palace, museum of ancient weapons and an Iranian garden. This garden is among the most beautiful gardens of Shiraz which has been one of the major gardens and kings' promenades in Safavid Period. In Qajar Period, Mirza Ali Mohammad Khan Ghavam al-Mulk the Second bought this garden and reconstructed it and built a beautiful mansion there. At the end of Qajar Period, this garden reached Afifeh Khanum, the founder's niece and she made some changes and improved this garden. Since then, this garden is known as Afif Abad. This garden, which is among the oldest gardens of Shiraz, is a complete exemplar of Iranian floriculture. In Afif Abad Military Museum, a collection of cold and warm weapons, automatic and semi-automatic weapons, a variety of swords, armors, spears, helmets, shields, muzzle-loading rifles, flint, hunting guns, pistol and a variety of machine guns are kept. Afif Abad Military Museum been registered as a national monument of Iran.
